Ultem (Polyetherimide PEI) is an engineering thermoplastic with excellent mechanical attributes and outstanding heat, flame, and chemical resistance. It is flame resistant and can be used in high-performance applications.
Ultem’s weatherability and resistance to UV radiation are two outstanding qualities.
Due to its high tensile strength, high flexural modulus, and high deflection temperature (200°C at 264 psi), this resin is exceptionally good at maintaining its original mechanical qualities even at high temperatures.
Using ultem has several disadvantages
- It only works for very demanding applications and is very pricey.
- Additionally, it must be dried out before processing, which takes a lot of time.
- Additionally, because of its low colorability, your color options are limited.
- Finally, polar chlorinated solvents can damage ultem resin, which might result in stress cracking.
